Drainage on the Øresund Link

As the motorway and the railway lie at a fairly low elevation, 10 large pumping stations have been installed along the length of the facility.

Adjacent to most of the pumping stations, large reservoirs have been established for temporary storage of rainwater. The rainwater is subsequently discharged into the Kalvebod Channel and Øresund.

For the draining system on the island of Amager, a secondary water system has been set up in conjunction with Copenhagen Energy.  Via a separate pumping system, this provides groundwater for cooling at the Amager Powerstation and saves between 600 and 800 million litres of drinking water per year.
