Denmark’s highest point is the top of the East Bridge’s concrete pylons, which, at 254m, offer a  anoramic view of Zealand, Sprogø and Funen. The design of the pylons was determined by consulting engineers CBR and the architectural firm of Dissing + Weitling. By leaving out the traditional crossbeam under the bridge deck, the two firms have created an exceptionally fine sculptural design, which gives a clear impression of the bridge’s and pylons’ static function.

The pylons carry the main cables via cable saddles that are located under a dehumidified saddle house to prevent corrosion. Stairs and lifts have been installed in the two pylon legs, The lifts, which can accommodate 12 people, take 6 minutes to transport service crews to the top of the pylons where a saddle house and a number of installations, such as aviation lights, a weather station and CCTV cameras are regularly checked.
