The East tunnel’s 8,024 meter long rail link comprises two parallel tubes constructed as bored tunnels. The two tunnel tubes are linked to 31 cross passages, which serve as escape routes and contain important installations.
The East tunnel is a bored tunnel. Four drilling machines where custom-made one for each direction of the tunnel tube. The 40 cm. thick tunnel walls consists of 62,500 bolted concrete panels.
From the ocean to the upper side of the tunnel there is 12 to 14 metres. The tunnel at its deepest point is 75 metres below the surface of the sea.
