A/S Storebælt owns four ferry ports north and south of the Storebælt link: Odden, Ebeltoft, Spodsbjerg and Taars.
The ports are run on standard commercial terms where revenue from users finances investment, operations and maintenance. The two companies, Mols-Linien A/S and Langelandstrafikken A/S, are customers of Storebælt A/S.
Act on Ferry Operations
A/S Storebælt has a direct interest in the ports because the Act on Ferry Operations obliges A/S Storebælt to guarantee the services on these routes in the event that such services cannot be operated on standard commercial terms. For the Spodsbjerg-Tårs route, A/S Storebælt has an agreement with Langelandstrafikken A/S to cover losses and manage operations for the period 2006-2011.
The ports are also strategically important for the company because they are part of the contingency planning for the provision of alternative options for motorists in the event of a disruption to services on the Storebælt fixed link.
During the year, and in conjunction with the ferry operators and the police, A/S Storebælt carried out vulnerability assessments of the ports at Odden, Ebeltoft, Spodsbjerg and Tårs as required by the Coast Directorate. The assessments have formed the basis for preparation of port security plans.
To ensure optimum conditions for customers, A/S Storebælt, as owner of the ports, together with Mols-Linien A/S, has upgraded the ticketing facilities at Odden port.
