Denmark's first CO2 neutral car race

As part of the Greenheart Charity Challenge car race and in partnership with CARE Denmark and Tesla Motors, Sund & Bælt contributed to Denmark's first CO2 neutral car race. Profits from the race and the accompanying competitions were donated to CARE Denmark, a humanitarian organisation that specialises in helping third world countries prevent climate disasters.

Participation from well-known names

On Thursday, 18 March, 2010 seven Danish celebrities drove across Denmark in four Tesla Roadsters, the world's fastest electric sports car in the CO2-neutral race 'Greenheart Charity Challenge' aimed at raising funds for CARE Denmark, which specialises in helping third world countries tackle climate challenges.

Starting in Esbjerg and finishing in Copenhagen, the four Tesla Roadster sports cars were driven by politician Ida Auken, racing-driver Casper Elgaard, stand-up comedian Sebastian Dorset, motor writer Christian Grau, presenter Anders Breinholt,  "The Snowball" from the popular TV programme "Den Glade Mand" and Director Christian Stadil.

The challenge was to complete the race in the most fuel efficient and, therefore, most environmental-friendly way rather than in the fastest time.

Green power on Sprogø

On the way to Copenhagen, a pit stop had been organised on the island of Sprogø in the Great Belt. While the cars were being recharged with certified green energy, the drivers and accompanying press lunched at the former home for ”fallen” women. They were then given a guided tour and answered questions from the media.

Rather surprisingly perhaps, the triple Danish champion driver, Casper Elgaard turned out to be the most efficient and in the end, emerged as the day's overall winner.
