As part of our environmental initiatives, we regularly look into new opportunities for energy savings. Studies conducted by A/S Storebælt have shown that the link's electricity consumption can be reduced by 200,000 kWh per year by switching off parts of the design lighting between midnight and 06:00.
Reduced lighting on the East Bridge at night will, therefore, result in significant energy savings from a relatively modest investment. At the same time, as the changes are visual only conditions for the bridge's users will remain unaffected.
Purely practical
The decision affects the exterior surfaces of the pylons while the lighting on the inner sides of the pylons will be maintained. The design elements below roadway level will continue to be lit for navigational safety reasons.
