Closure of the Storebælt Bridge

The Storebælt Bridge is usually open 24/7, 365 days a year. Since westerly winds predominate and the bridge lies in an East-West direction, there are rarely any problems with high winds.

For reasons of traffic safety, wind and weather conditions may close the bridge to all types of traffic. Full or partial closure is always co-ordinated with the police.

As a rule of thumb, the Storebælt bridge closes to high-sided and light vehicles at wind speeds of 15m per second. Complete closure is ordered at wind speeds above 25m per second (storm).
